Ogie and Regine at the Verdant Pavillion

Once in a while, Boholanos get lucky and popular performers hold concerts in the province. Last February, as a Valentine treat, Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez held a very enjoyable concert that included some standup comedy from Ogie.

The Verdant Pavillion at Panglao Island Nature Resort is a favorite venue for concerts like this. It is also a very good venue for wedding reception, by the way.

The crowd is easily more than a few thousand and probably a bit shy for the performers. Ogie complained though that the ladies kissing him are “matronas” or mothers on the more mature end. Some of the audience drew applause when they participated in a sing-along with Ogie.

Regine sang a very funny song that sounded like Korean but actually had Filipino lyrics. She then reminded everyone that we watch too much Koreanovelas (Korean soap operas) that we start to understand the language already.

Looking forward to another concert at the Verdant Pavillion.

KIA Motors organizes KIA Iron Legs Bike Race in Bohol which will be held in July 2008 and softlaunched the event website at www.kiaironlegs.com on April 1, 2008. The event sponsors include the Alpha Phi Omega fraternity, Auza.Net, K&N Productions and LGC Car Display Center. The 120 kilometer race is open to all amateur and professional bike racers who will test their endurance from Tagbilaran City to the Chocolate Hills in Carmen and back. DYRD-AM Reaches Out To Boholanos Around the World

DYRD-AM, the number one radio station in Tagbilaran City and in Bohol is now available to Boholanos around the world via the Internet using audio streaming technology. Bohol Chronicle Radio Corporation, the operator of DYRD-AM and Auza.Net, an Internet service provider in Tagbilaran City, joined forces in this venture. This breakthrough partnership will be the start of a series of projects that will bring Boholanos abroad a little bit closer to home through media streaming and other new technologies.

Carolina Medical Mission Heads for Bohol

The Carolina Medical Mission heads for Bohol to perform free medical and dental consultations in Maribojoc, Bohol on Jan 23-27, 2006. Doctors from various specialties travelled all the way from Carolina, USA complete with medicines and some equipment that they will use for the 5 day mission.

The mission was facilitated in Bohol by a dedicated group of volunteers with the help of the Gift of Life Foundation. The municipality of Maribojoc also particpated in the preparation of pre-screening of patients who come from different towns in Bohol.

TBTK- Tigum Bol-anon Tibuok Kalibutan

TBTK works as a steering committee in organizing homecoming of various Boholano organizations around the world. The next TBTK is in July 2006 coinciding with the Sandugo 2006 celebration. The involved organizations include the Confederation of Boholanos in the United States and Canada (CONBUSAC), Bohol Association of Metro Manila, Inc. (BAMMI) and many other Boholano Organizations from other Countries and Boholano organizations from Philippine Provinces. The Provincial Government of Bohol, Congressional Districts of Bohol, City Government of Tagbilaran and the Dioceses of Tagbilaran and Talibon will host the event.TBTK 2006 is an event every Boholano expatriate should not miss. As Chairperson Betty V. Garcia says, “Mamauli ta sa Bohol!”
