Ermita Ruins

Ermita Ruins
The Ermita Ruins is a structure found in Dimiao, Bohol whose history still remains unclear. It is located behind the parish church of Dimiao, the San Nicolas Tolentino Parish Church, which is 36.7 kilometers away from Tagbilaran City. This historical structure was built during the Spanish times probably the same time as the parish church, and is composed of a brokendown chapel and fortress, and a graveyard. Read more…

Punta Cruz

Punta Cruz is located along the shorelines of the town of Maribojoc, which is 14 kilometers away from the city proper. It is a tower built in the Spanish times to guard the land from pirates. The tower overlooks the Cebu Strait, Siquijor Sea, and Mindanao Sea thus providing a great view [...]

Sagbayan Peak

Sagbayan Peak is beginning to be a popular spot among tourists and sightseeing locals alike. From the few times that I’ve been there I can certainly see why. The place is reminiscent of the Chocolate Hills resort located in Carmen, a neighboring town, although more spacious and a whole lot less crowded, with ample parking [...]

The Himontagon Hills of Loay

Sometimes the most ordinary places can hide a gem within. This can most certainly be said about the town of Loay, Bohol. Hidden within the heart of the town lie a cluster of diminutive and verdant hills called Himontagon Hills that are beginning to attract tourists of the sentimental and romantic sort. While not [...]

The “Chicken’s Intestine” in Bilar

On my frequent travels around Bohol I have often passed through a snake-like road in Bilar town that the locals call “tinae sa manok” in the vernacular, or “chicken’s intestine”. Quite a funny name for a road that seems darkly forbidding at first, but if you’re a sucker for atmosphere then I highly recommend [...]

Visit Bohol and Stay with the Schmocker Family

I stumbled on the website of the Schmocker Family and found their website very interesting for two reasons: 1, It linked to www.boholweb.com as the Travel and Tours link and 2, their bed and breakfast rates are really quite affordable. It is offering travellers a vacation that immerses them to the local culture which is [...]

St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Tagbilaran City

The St. Joseph’s Cathedral, one of the oldest churches in Bohol, was built in 1595 and was destroyed by an earthquake in 1798, then later rebuilt in the 19th century. It is located in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, near Plaza Rizal and the Provincial Capitol. The church is adjacent to the Bishop’s Palace where the Bishop [...]

Sunset at Loay, Bohol

One late afternoon, while we were driving from our ancestral home in Poblacion Vieja, Batuan, Bohol to Tagbilaran City, we noticed that the setting sun was getting quite pretty. Because the circumferencial road was being constructed at that time, we had to wait for a section of the road where we could park and take [...]
