Bohol Organizes ICT Council

The province of Bohol through its Investments Promotions Center, together with the Department of Trade and Industry, organized the Bohol ICT Council on April 23, 2008. The members of the council were selected among the attendees of a SWOT session led by the Commission on ICT the previous week.

The council also elected its Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson and decided on the council’s name as ‘Bohol ICT Council’. It also identified four key committes, namely Infrastructure, Human Resource, Education and Promotions.

Laptop toting road warriors will have more rest stops where they can connect to the Internet to get updated with work and of course, with friends and family. Auza.Net’s hardworking team led by Techsier himself has deployed WiFi Zones called rSPOTs in various locations. rSPOT users can roam at different rSPOT locations using the same prepaid card, thus making it very convenient to connect to the Internet. In the next few months, they promise to expand to more areas to provide convenient and cost effective Internet access to mobile users, allowing them to do business in various locations.

rSPOTs are currently deployed at the Soledad Suites and Brewpoint at J. Borja St, Wregent Hotel at CPG Ave, the Courtyard (Le Spa) at Airport Road, and at Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital (formerly provincial hospital). More sites are coming throughout Tagbilaran City. rSPOT cards are sold at these locations also.

The prepaid rSPOT cards are available in two types: Time and Data. Time cards are rated at 96kbps dedicated bandwidth and are economically priced at Php25 (1 hour), Php50 (2 hours), Php100 (5 hours) and Php150 (10 hours) and are intended for users doing chat, emails and normal web browsing. Data cards are rated at 256kbps or 384kbps of dedicated bandwith and are intended for power users doing downloads or uploads of large files. For Php75, a user can dowload or upload 100MB at 256kbps, or for Php250, 500MB. Heavy downloads can be done at 384kbps using the 1GB Data card at Php400.

Lumayag Realty Office Opens Up Online Catalog

The Bohol Investment Promotions Center (BIPC) launched its website at http://www.boholinvest.com on November 17, 2005 with the assistance of the Auza.net, a new technology company based in Bohol. The website contains useful information about Bohol, its investment climate, and the products and services available at BIPC. The launch is timely with Bohol agressively promoting the province as a new information and communications technology (ICT) hub in the Philippines by offering incentives to cyberservices locators such as call centers, business process outsourcing agenceis and medical transcriptionists. Bohol Provincial Government Holds ICT Forum

The provincial government of Bohol will hold an ICT Forum on November 14, 2005 at the Harbor View function room at Bohol Tropics Resort. The forum will highlight the plan to make Bohol as the next ICT hub in the country in order to attract investors to locate call centers and medical transcription operations in the province. It was an unprecendented move by major political players in Bohol who almost simultaneously announced full support of investments in information and communications technology. Tagbilaran City Mayor Dan Lim, Bohol Governor Erico Aumentado and 1st Congressional District Representative Edgar Chatto announced in various news media their respective ideas on ICT and how to provide jobs to Boholanos. They all are pushing for call centers and medical transcription operations in Bohol, with possibilities of putting up a PEZA and tax incentives to investors.

Bohol may be the next ICT hub in the Philippines and interested investors would be happy to know that the province currently have call center grade Internet connection provided by the partnership between AUZA.NET and Raynetworks, Inc..
